US President Barack Obama has announced the line-up for the first festival to be staged at The White House. South By South Lawn takes place in the grounds of The White House on October 3 and has been organised with the makers of the annual US music industry festival South By Southwest. It will star The Lumineers, Sharon Jones And The Dap Kings and DJ Beverly Bond, with other music guests to be announced. There will also be a preview screening of Before The Flood, the documentary about climate change directed by Leonardo DiCaprio, which has a score by Mogwai and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. Tickets to the festival were held by a public ballot in the US, which has since closed. It’s thought that additional last-minute tickets might be announced via South By South Lawn’s website here. Although South By South Lawn is the first public festival to be held at The White House, Obama has regularly invited musicians to play at his official residence. Most recently, his summer barbeque for Independence Day on July 4 featured sets by Kendrick Lamar and Janelle Monae. It’s thought that, if the festival is a success, it will become an annual event, though neither Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump has confirmed if it will be part of their plans.
